THE EQUINOX, A LUXURY COLLECTION GOLF RESORT & SPA, VERMONT
Manchester Village, Vermont – The Golf Club at The Equinox, managed by Troon Golf®, is widely recognized as one of America’s best resort golf courses.  Built in 1927 by Walter Travis, the 18-hole championship-quality golf course combines a dramatic blend of the past and present within a picturesque mountain setting. A $3.5 million restoration in 1992 by renowned golf-course architect Rees Jones brought the course to modern standards within the context of Travis’ original routing while following an environmentally friendly approach. The Golf Club at The Equinox is a repeat recipient of Golf Magazine’s prestigious Silver Medal Award, has been praised by Golf Week and voted one of the world’s “Top Resort Golf Courses” by Travel + Leisure.

"Our goal in continually maintaining and improving the golf course is to focus on the combination of the preservation of the Walter Travis history, the sensitivity to the surrounding natural beauty and environment, and the strong commitment to the enjoyment of the game by all levels of golfers," said Mark O’Neill, General Manager of The Equinox resort.

Walter Travis – a U.S. Amateur Championship winner and the first overseas winner of the British Amateur Championship – began designing the 18-hole The Equinox course in the mid 1920s based on principles of the Scottish links tradition. The Equinox Links Club, as the course was known, opened on July 1, 1927.

Rees Jones's 1992 restoration preserved Travis's original routing and the course's rustic Scottish flavor, capitalizing on the scenic mountain setting.  Greens were contoured and rebuilt to at least their original size and to USGA standards.  Improvements included an irrigation system, extensive drainage controls, elevation of several fairways to further improve drainage and the re-grassing of the entire course with modern grasses.  In keeping with The Equinox’s dedication to environmental responsibility, the golf course was one of the first courses to be registered as a Cooperative Sanctuary by the Audubon Society of New York state.  Participating courses in this society strive to increase habitats for enhanced wildlife populations.  The course was also the first in Vermont to submit and receive approval for an integrated pest management plan.
