EQUINOX, THE VERMONT RESORT, ENHANCES HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE WITH THE ACQUISITION OF 1811 HOUSE
November 12, 2008
Exquisite 18th Century Bed & Breakfast is Newest Addition to Resort Manchester Village, VT (August 2007) — HEI Hotels & Resorts is excited to acquire the 1811 House, a historic bed and breakfast in Manchester Village, VT, adding another piece of history and old-world charm to Vermont’s legendary resort, Equinox. Located directly across the street from the main hotel building overlooking the Golf Club at Equinox, the 1811 House is both a natural and graceful extension of the historic Equinox resort. “We are thrilled about this significant and elegant extension of Equinox,” says Equinox General Manager, Courtney Lowe. “We are dedicated to preserving the historic integrity of the 1811 House and are looking forward to making it part of Equinox experience.” The former home of Abraham Lincoln’s granddaughter, the impeccably maintained 13-room 1811 House was originally built in the 1700’s and features Federal period styling with fireplaces, private porches, private baths, oriental rugs, authentic antiques and original artwork throughout the property. Guests of the 1811 House will now have access to all the incredible amenities offered at Equinox including a 13,000-square-foot spa, several food and beverage outlets, tennis courts and the Golf Course and Clubhouse. In addition, the 1811 House boasts a full gourmet breakfast in the formal dining room, an authentic British pub featuring a collection of over ninety single malt scotch whiskies, and a library featuring wood burning fireplaces and decanters of sherry. Equinox plans minimal renovations to 1811 House, intending to preserve the historic property and maintain the essence of Manchester Village. The house will continue to operate as a bed and breakfast through the holiday season, and will maintain members of the staff moving ahead. Located on nearly 1,300 acres between the Green and Taconic Mountains and encompassing 195 rooms, Equinox resort now includes the historic Equinox Hotel, the 1769 Marsh Tavern, the Charles Orvis Inn and the 1811 House. Named an AAA Four Diamond resort for 14 consecutive years, the resort features the Golf Club at Equinox, one of the top 50 resort golf courses in the United States, as well as many unique activities, including Falconry, Archery, and Off-Road Driving. The resort also includes an 800 acre Preservation area with hiking trails and a trout pond for catch and release fly fishing.
